Training For Trains For Eskvalley MES
The broad range of community groups and organisations in South Edinburgh attracts lots of people with varying interests ranging from sport, health & wellbeing, social care, music, and education.
When the Eskvalley Model Engineering Society, which is based at Roslin Glen Country Park, applied to the Community Fund for support for its junior members we were happy to help.
The Community Fund award was made to purchase and fit a digital read out (DRO) to the lathe used mainly for training junior members who are learning important engineering skills by building and running model engines.
Ed Dee, Secretary of the Eskvalley Model Engineering Society said: “The Society‘s purpose is to encourage and provide facilities for people interested in practical engineering and the construction and working of models of all kinds. We applied to the Cameron Toll Community Fund for funding to help train our junior members and improve their engineering skills and were delighted to receive its support.”
Claire Jefcoate, Centre Manager at Cameron Toll added: “The Community Fund supports a lot of community groups in South Edinburgh that do lots of different things for the community. As well as running Vogrie Park Miniature Railway, a popular visitor attraction in Vogrie Country Park, the Eskvalley Model Engineering Society also provide engineering facilities and training for young people, to acquire skills they can use in their future careers too.”
Regular meetings are held on Monday evenings at the workshop in Roslin Glen Country Park and trains run at Vogrie Country Park on Sunday afternoons from Easter to end September. The Society welcomes new members of any age with an interest in model engineering.
