For many people, Christmas can feel lonely, quiet and overwhelmingly difficult so the Southside Community Centre Association SCIO hosts a Communities at Christmas event to ensure no one in the community feels forgotten during the festive season.
Joining forces with Edinburgh Old Town Development Trust, Goodies SCIO and Simon Community Scotland their special event on Christmas Day welcomed 193 people, offering support to those experiencing isolation, homelessness or mental health challenges at what can be a very tough time of year.
Michael Traill, chief executive of Southside Community Centre Association said: “Thanks to the Cameron Toll Community Fund, the day began with a warm breakfast and access to showering facilities, ensuring guests started Christmas morning feeling cared for and respected.
“Throughout the day, our guests enjoyed a variety of activities, including arts and crafts, board games, musical entertainment and festive film showings, creating a relaxed and friendly environment where people can come together. One of the highlights of the day was our Christmas dinner sittings, serving freshly prepared festive meals to ensure everyone enjoyed a hearty Christmas dinner before every guest received a thoughtful gift.”
Claire Jefcoate, centre manager at Cameron Toll added: “For many Christmas can be a tough time so special events, like Communities at Christmas, that bring people together to enjoy the warmth and friendship of others is something we are delighted to support.”
