Smash hit for local badminton event

Edinburgh Malayalee Samajam (EMS) is a registered charity that brings communities together through cultural, social and sporting events. By organising activities for its members and the wider community, EMS helps to celebrate culture, build connections and encourage participation in sport.

This year, EMS will host its annual Badminton Tournament at Liberton High School, welcoming teams from across Scotland. Now in its 11th year, the event has become a much-anticipated highlight in the community calendar, bringing people together from a range of backgrounds for a day of friendly competition and socialising.

To support the cost of hiring the courts, EMS applied to the Cameron Toll Community Fund and was successful.

Noel Joe Mathew, President of Edinburgh Malayalee Samajam, said: “Our annual badminton tournament is great fun and brings people together, celebrating our community and promoting healthy, active lifestyles. It has grown year on year and now welcomes participants from across Scotland. Thanks to the support from the Cameron Toll Community Fund, we’re confident that this year’s event at Liberton High School will be another fantastic day.”

Claire Jefcoate, Centre Manager at Cameron Toll, added: “Liberton High School is just up the road from the centre, so we’re delighted to support such a popular sporting and South Edinburgh community event. If the last ten years are anything to go by, this year’s tournament will be another big success.”
