Youthzone provides a nurturing and inclusive environment in South Edinburgh where children with additional support needs can attend a regular weekend club, while also offering valuable respite for parents and carers.

The club, which is run by the Capability Scotland charity, delivers a wide range of activities tailored to the interests of the children, helping them build confidence and develop important life skills. From cooking and swimming to learning how to use public transport, the sessions are designed to support independence while ensuring children can safely access and enjoy the wider community.
As well as developing practical skills, the club offers vital social opportunities, allowing children to build friendships and feel part of a supportive group.
To enhance its sessions, Youthzone successfully applied to the Cameron Toll Community Fund for funding to purchase resources for the club, including sensory equipment such as lights, fabrics and tents, to help create a more stimulating and engaging environment for the children.
Alison Snell, Team Leader at Capability Scotland said: “Our weekend club provides a safe and supportive space where children can have fun, build confidence and develop key life skills, while also giving parents and carers some much-needed respite. The welcome funding from the Cameron Toll Community Fund for new sensory equipment will make a real difference to the children who attend, helping to create a more inclusive and engaging environment.”
Claire Jefcoate, Centre Manager at Cameron Toll, added: “We’re pleased to support Youthzone through the Community Fund. The work they do to support children with additional needs and their families is so important, and this funding will help enhance the fantastic activities they already provide.”
