The University of Edinburgh Gymnastics Club (EUGC) works to expand access to gymnastics across the city, offering opportunities not only to students but also to the wider Edinburgh community.

In response, it has introduced a dedicated recreational membership for non-students, allowing adults from across the city to train affordably once a week.
The initiative has proven extremely popular, welcoming participants of all ages and abilities from complete beginners to experienced gymnasts. With few alternative options available locally, the sessions have become a valuable and inclusive space for the community including those in South Edinburgh.
However, with funding pressures increasing, it has become more challenging to sustain the programme while keeping costs affordable. To support the continuation of these sessions, the club made a successful application to the Cameron Toll Community Fund for funding to cover coaching costs, which are essential for safely delivering the weekly Sunday sessions.
Aaron Walker, EUGC Fundraising & Social Officer said: “We’re proud to offer a space where adults of all backgrounds and abilities can take part in gymnastics, whether they’re trying it for the first time or returning to the sport. Each session requires a team of qualified coaches and runs for two and a half hours so the support from the Cameron Toll Community Fund will make a real difference, helping us cover essential coaching costs and continue running sessions for the community.”
Claire Jefcoate, Centre Manager at Cameron Toll, added: “We’re delighted to support the University of Edinburgh Gymnastics Club through the Community Fund. The club is located a short distance from the centre and is doing fantastic work to open up access to sport, and this funding will help ensure those opportunities can continue in an inclusive and affordable way.”
