Helping Build Confidence and Connection

Providing care and understanding for birth parents whose children are in permanent foster care, adoption or kinship care lies at the heart of the Bluebird Project, part of the charity Scottish Adoption & Fostering.

Meeting regularly at Bluebird’s base in south Edinburgh, a small group of inspiring women come together to share experiences and support one another in a safe, nurturing environment where they can connect, reflect and rebuild confidence.

Naomi Head, Bluebird Project Co-Ordinator, explained: “One of the key ways we help parents is through our groupwork sessions, run from our office in south Edinburgh. The parents we work with have faced huge challenges, but when they’re given space to be heard and understood, incredible things happen.

“With compassion and care, we help them rebuild trust, confidence and hope, partly through activities that promote health and wellbeing. Support from the Cameron Toll Community Fund allows us to purchase equipment and arts and crafts materials for our meetings, as well as resources for an increasing number of outdoor activities.”

Claire Jefcoate, Centre Manager at Cameron Toll, added: “The Bluebird Project is a wonderful initiative supporting parents who have faced, and continue to face, very difficult circumstances. Its programme offers empathy and encouragement in ways that meet individual needs, and we’re delighted to help them continue this important work.”
