Funding Paints A Positive Picture
Getting involved with in art, even for the first time, brings lots of benefits to those taking part. It builds confidence, boosts creativity, helps people relax, and creates new social connections
The Chabad of Edinburgh is a community focused organisation which offers a range of cultural, educational and social activities and since it was established in 2008 has welcomed individuals from diverse backgrounds including students, locals and visitors to the city.
When it decided to start a monthly art class for up to 30 participants it applied to the Cameron Toll Community Fund for support to provide art supplies to cover its first year of operation.
Rabbi Pinny Weinman said: “Our art classes are aimed at fostering more community engagement by creating a new, fun activity. Art brings so many benefits to those who participate. It brings people’s inner creativity out, it helps them relax and it lets people make new friendships. The support from the Community Fund will play a big part in making the group a success.”
Claire Jefcoate, Centre Manager at Cameron Toll, said: “Art can have such a positive impact on people as individuals and also on the wider community. Existing friendships are enhanced, new friendships are made and people’s own personalities can be boosted by becoming more creative and confident. We’re pleased that the Community Fund can play a part in making that happen.”
