Funding Ensures Charity Keeps Delivering Services

In September 2023 the Cameron Toll Community Fund provided important funding for ten training courses for new staff joining Street Assist and we’re pleased to be able to provide further funding to the charity to help them deliver the vital volunteer services they do in Edinburgh.

As Street Assist operates across the city centre its Patient Transport Vehicle plays an integral role.  One of the its biggest annual outlays is the vehicle’s insurance so the Community Fund has agreed to fund that cost for the next two years.

Claire Jefcoate, Centre Manager at Cameron Toll said: “We have a large student population near Cameron Toll and they will be familiar with the Street Assist team’s presence every weekend in the city centre so supporting the charity’s work in keeping people safe is something we’re happy to do.  By funding a major annual cost it allows the charity to focus even more on delivering such a vital support service in Edinburgh.”

Street Assist operates every Friday and Saturday from 10pm to 4am providing a non-judgmental welfare/first aid service to help people who have become vulnerable during the busy Night-Time Economy hours. They have 180 volunteers that work with them across the city from a wide range of backgrounds, all who require vital training when they start out.

Street Assist provides support to people who have presented in a moment of crisis, mostly people who have over consumed (drink & drugs), spiking, suffering from mental health issues, victims of assault, sexual assault, domestic assault. It has also helped in finding people who have been reported missing, people who have lost their friends, helped people recharge their phones, reunite them with their lost friends with the aim of making sure people don’t come to further harm and that we can organise a safe route home for them.

Neil Logan, Founder of Street Assist Edinburgh said “We really appreciate all the support we have received from the team at Cameron Toll. Street Assist Edinburgh is a very small charity with limited funding so support like this really does help us continue delivering the fantastic work our volunteers do every weekend.”
