“Cooking At The Crannie” Is a Recipe For Community Spirit
Tackling social isolation, supporting mental well-being and encouraging healthier eating habits are central to Cooking at the Crannie, a much-loved community project in Edinburgh’s Old Town.
Run by the Edinburgh Old Town Development Trust, the weekly club brings local people together every Thursday to cook and share a three-course meal, welcoming 15 to 20 community members each time.
Carolynn Reddell from the Edinburgh Old Town Development Trust explained: “The Crannie is a community facility at the heart of the Old Town, providing an inclusive space where everyone is welcome. We run lots of different initiatives for those who live nearby.
“With many residents facing the challenges of rising living costs and limited access to fresh food, Cooking at the Crannie offers a valuable service that provides meaningful support and ensures even more people can enjoy good food and good company. The support from the Cameron Toll Community Fund will help us provide fresh ingredients and training for those who take part.”
Claire Jefcoate, Centre Manager at Cameron Toll, added: “When we visited The Crannie we were bowled over by the warmth and friendliness of everyone, and we could see first-hand the positive impact that Cooking at the Crannie was having on all involved. We were delighted, through our Community Fund, to support the project and we wish it continued success.”
