Community Funding To Support Local Foodbank
Supporting a wide range of diverse projects is at the heart of the Cameron Toll Community Fund. It might be a sports team, a community group or even a kids club but sometimes it’s an initiative that exists to help some of the most vulnerable in our communities.
Newington Foodbank+ operates from the Community Church Edinburgh in South Clerk Street and seeks to support individuals and families that are in financial crisis. They applied for funding from the Cameron Toll Community Fund which we are pleased to award.
It is run in partnership between Community Church Edinburgh and Edinburgh City Mission and is supported by Newington Churches Together who provide volunteers and donate goods.
Fiona Ferguson from Newington Foodbank+ said: “We receive no central funding so rely on donations to support families and individuals in Southside/Newington who are struggling to make ends meet. As well as food, we take time to listen to people’s stories and signpost them to other organisations and agencies. The support from the Cameron Toll Community Fund will supplement the donations we receive for around three months and we’re very grateful for that support.”
Claire Jefcoate, Centre Manager at Cameron Toll added: “The Community Fund has supported a wide range of local projects in south Edinburgh all aimed at helping local people. We’re pleased to be able to support Newington Foodbank+ in its very important work helping people who are living through tough times.”
