Community Fund Boosts Dunedin School Projects

Each year, Dunedin School in south Edinburgh organises a range of extra-curricular activities designed to build pupils’ confidence, independence and social skills.

The small independent secondary school provides flexible, highly supportive education for young people aged 11–18 who have struggled in mainstream settings. Dunedin specialises in re-engaging pupils with social, emotional or additional support needs, helping them rebuild confidence, gain qualifications and move towards positive futures.

Activities such as residential trips, theatre visits, hands-on learning experiences and sports sessions offer valuable opportunities for pupils to grow, explore and thrive.

Sarah Boak from Dunedin School said: “Throughout the school year, we offer a wide range of activities that help our pupils grow in confidence and develop essential social skills. Many of our young people find certain situations more challenging than others, so giving them varied experiences is crucial in helping them feel more prepared for the future. Support from the Cameron Toll Community Fund allows us to provide even more of these opportunities, which makes a real difference to our students.”

Claire Jefcoate, Centre Manager at Cameron Toll, added: “We always enjoy spending time with the Dunedin pupils and staff during our local litter pick-ups, so we’re delighted to also support the wider range of activities the school runs throughout the year.”
