Cameron Toll Community Fund Supports Hays Community Hub

Two projects based at Hays Community Hub have received support from the Cameron Toll Community Fund, with the Community Pantry receiving £250 in Sainsbury’s vouchers and Cosy Knitters receiving £200 to purchase wool and knitting materials.

Hays Community Hub, part of Places for People, is a welcoming community space in Craigmillar that brings people together, reduces isolation and provides practical support for local residents. Through a range of activities and services, the hub helps people build connections, develop new skills and improve their wellbeing.

The Community Pantry provides affordable access to food and household essentials for local families. It stocks fresh fruit and vegetables, tinned and dried goods, hygiene products and baby items and over the past six years, has supported more than 3,500 families and continues to see growing demand for its services.

Cosy Knitters is a community-led knitting group that provides a friendly environment where people can learn new skills, share knowledge and build friendships, helping to reduce social isolation and support mental wellbeing.

The funding will help the pantry continue supporting local households with essential food supplies, while enabling Cosy Knitters to purchase materials for group projects and learning activities, ensuring everyone can take part regardless of their circumstances.

Katie Brash from Hays Community Hub said: “Our pantry and knitting group play an important role in supporting local people and creating opportunities for connection within the community. This funding will help us continue providing practical support while ensuring our activities remain accessible and inclusive for everyone who takes part.”

Claire Jefcote, Centre Manager at Cameron Toll, said: “Hays Community Hub provides invaluable support to people across the local area, helping to tackle isolation, improve wellbeing and strengthen community connections. We are delighted to support both the Community Pantry and Cosy Knitters and look forward to seeing the positive impact this funding will have.”
